Duane Horton

Black Queer Fantasy Writer

viewimage-storyMain.php.JPG

About

Duane Horton is a black queer fantasy writer who resides in the Bay Area. But he's from Cleveland, Ohio. He believes in writing his intersection of identity into his fantasy stories to widen the cannon of literature. And so that more folks who share his intersection of identity can see themselves represented on the page.

He received his undergraduate degree from Allegheny College in 2014 where he spent time studying feminist theory and eventually graduated with his BA in English with a minor in women's studies. He graduated with his MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College in 2019 and since then, has been published with Green Mountains Review, Sapphire Hues Press and more. Duane currently works as an Educator, and still has a major appetite for the latest anime shows that pique his interest. As you continue to explore the page, please take a look at his workshop services and use the contact box below to inquire about more.

Duane is in conversation with the bringing to life of his first novel. While otherwise hosting a book club, speaking at panels or events, and always believing in the uses of the imagination.

Community Work

I am a past teaching artist with the organization Chapter 510 and I had the pleasure of facilitating a workshop for queer identified youth of color in the Oakland area. I named the program 'After Origins' and we release a published anthology of my student's work named 'Empowered Origins'. A link to the anthology and the chapter 510 website can be found below.

Please take the time to check out the more recently published 'Hello From Somewhere' which also came from a workshop I facilitated and can be found at the before mentioned website.
